ABOUT

Lama is a multi-instrumentalist from the city Salvador da Bahia in Brazil. At a very young age, he toured Europe with the group Bagunçaço. As a professional percussionist, he has taken part in a variety of projects, such as Carlinhos Brown's group Os Zárabes, Ramiro Mussotto's Afro-Sudaka group and singer Daniela Mercury, as well as Renaud Patigny, Sweet Coffee, Carla Visi, Gilmêlandia and Spaicy Bazile.

Lama has a special interest in the rhythms of the Candomblé religion, and he has during his career also studied Cuban, Latin and African percussion, by which he continues to be inspired, always looking for a fusion of elements for his compositions and projects.

ATABAXÉ

Atabaxé is a project conceived by Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Moisés Lama, who brings together the set of rhythms dedicated to the Orishas and emblematic instruments, the three atabaques: rum, rum-pi, lé, and the agogô bell.

Finding its origin in the voodoo cults of West Africa, the Candomblé religion emerged in Brazil in the city Salvador da Bahia, within the communities of the enslaved with as main means of expression the percussions and the voice.

In Atabaxé the voice will be embodied by copper instruments bringing, in addition to the influences of Afro-Brazilian rhythms, the other main ingredients of this project: Afro jazz and brass bands, creating a powerful and original alchemy.
